HERO Manager Tanya McDermott

HERO Manager Tanya McDermott has been a harness racing journalist for 25 years, with extensive print and electronic media experience.

She previously worked for 10 years as Country Marketing Executive for Harness Racing Victoria.

She has a vast industry network and a passionate interest in Standardbred welfare - Tanya has been rehoming and re-educating retired pacers and trotters for more than a decade.

Prior to accepting her position with HERO, Tanya was already the “go to” person for many of the State’s owners and trainers with retired Standardbreds seeking life after racing homes.

At any one time, up to eight retirees are in Tanya’s personal care and at various stages of their re-education under saddle.

Her husband Graham is a third generation trainer/driver which gives Tanya a valuable hands-on insight into the industry from a racing perspective.

She was also a founding member of the Northern Standardbred Riding Group Inc., a Horse Riding Clubs Association of Victoria-affiliated organisation which has made significant inroads in creating opportunities for pleasure Standardbreds and their riders.

In 2008, Tanya received the Pearl Kelly Award recognising the notable and sustained contribution by a woman to the harness racing industry in Victoria.

Tanya is assisted in her role by Warren Cochrane and Bronwyn Daube of Cobe Lodge Limited.

The duo has been involved with the Program since it's inception but came on board in August 2017 as a full time contractor, re-educating and rehoming retired Standardbreds under the HERO banner.

In addition to being vastly experienced with both racing and pleasure Standardbreds, Cobe Lodge oversees the HERO Retrainer Registration assessment process and provides ongoing education, problem solving and training support to those working with HERO horses.
